Why does greaser and socs have to fight?

In my opinion greasers and socs fight for the respect and fun. I don't think that they play The godfather so the war have to have a reason, but how can we understand that fight?
First, i think greacers and socs need to fidght for land and teritrory, if they both lose they'r teritory they will loose the war and dissapear as an enemy.
Second thing can be that they just fight for respect, but it is very hard to make enemies be afraid of you as a stronger gang. Respect is inportant thing in gangs and mafia. Respect can make you to be weak and it can make you to be a Don of the gang.
Third thing was seed in the movie. Johnny was woundead. Dally seed: we will fight for Johnny.
That means that they are brothers and that is called revenge.
All in all i think that Ponyboy and that guy he had a talk will make something that could change a thinking about our lives. If it won't happens, there will be a huge fight.
